5 Rules Every DIY Bride Should Follow
With new DIY wedding tips at every turn on the web, it is easy to get sucked in to this ever-so-popular trend. But does that mean every bride SHOULD be falling for it? Heck no! In fact, most brides shouldn’t even be giving DIY a second thought, because quite frankly, it just isn’t for everyone. The two things that DIY can provide are a bit of cost savings and personalization. If your wedding is in need of these two things, then perhaps you should be looking into some DIY projects. But, consider yourself warned that it’s not going to be easy.
And you MUST follow these 5 rules, or you could be the inspiration for next Pinterest Fail post to go viral!
You must be somewhat creative to pull off a good DIY project. If you have zero artistic ability and hate doing crafts, then why in the world would you consider DIY-ing anything? Hone in on your skills and find a project that requires your specific talents. If you are not creative, but love the DIY look, then hire a professional (like ReInspired Bride) to DIY for you!
This is a biggie because it is really easy to get sucked into wanting to DIY EVERYTHING for your wedding (Pinterest does that to us). But resist the urge to try every idea you come across! Narrow it down to just a few that you really love. You simply aren’t going to have the time to do too many projects, so don’t fool yourself just to be disappointed later. I recommend no more than 3 DIY projects for a wedding.
Know what you are getting yourself into and then allot time for yourself to complete projects. Do not find a super huge project (making favors for 150 guests) and assume you can knock it out in an hour with minimum effort. Your will find yourself overwhelmed and stressed very quickly.
One best parts about this whole DIY trend is the personalization aspect. It’s cool because now weddings don’t have to be as cookie-cutter as they’ve been in the pass. Thanks to Pinterest, there are so many ways to get things into the wedding day that truly represent the couple. If you are going to DIY, don’t do it just because someone else did and it was cool, do something that you as a couple love, and want to represent this amazing day for you!
There are real costs associated with going the DIY route, ones that many brides don’t even realize or think about. I wrote an article for the extremely talented Renee Angela Photography explaining the 5 main costs of DIY in detail. Click here to check out the article! It’s pretty eye opening.
As a “creative” myself (that’s the term the internet assigns to weirdoes like me, who like crafts and go into artistic professions), I have done a lot of DIY in my time. I usually see a project and think to myself “I could do that.” Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail miserably! I have been on both sides for sure, and following these 5 rules could have definitely saved me more than once.
Don’t end up being the next Pinterest Fail. You’ve got this!!
