5 Unique First Dance Songs to Rock Your Wedding

There are very few things that I like more than a unique first dance song. Seriously, I'm a bit of a freak, I know. For some reason I just LOVE the thought of a couple's love being represented so emotionally and beautifully in 3 minutes. It's kind of magical if you ask me.  And for that reason, I just am not a fan at all of having a First Dance song because it's the most popular wedding song of all time (I won't mention any songs by name here - but we all know them!).

I love when couples choose a song because of what it means to them or because it makes them think of each other when they hear it. My own first dance song meant so much to me, that it became the name of my business (yes, We've Got Something Special is a line from my wedding song... you can check out the full song at the bottom of this post if you're dying to hear it!). And no, I don't hear my wedding song on the radio -ever - because it was never a chart topping single.... but when I do hear it (when my husband plays it for me) - it makes it all that much more special!

This post was originally inspired when I attended the Ed Sheeran concert last month because one of my favorite songs from his new album would make such a PERFECT first dance song. However, although it isn't a hit now, I have a feeling it might be soon - and then it isn't going to be so "unique" any longer. But because I love it and it was the inspiration for this post - I am going to start out the list with it. But I've added a bonus song in the middle of the list to keep it at 5 unique first dance songs once Ed Sheeran's is no longer unique.

So let's get this list started shall we?

!. Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud

As I mentioned previously, this is one of my favorites off of Ed's "X" album. It's so romantic and adorable...  And his voice is amazing! I'm predicting this one will be much less unique as it is heard more and more by the masses... but for now, it's still unique!

2. Leona Lewis - I Will Be

I used to love Leona Lewis back in her Bleeding Love days! This song is perfect complete with vows to be there for each other and pick each other up after a bad day. Seriously what could be better for a first dance?

3. Boyce Avenue - Speed Limit

Ok, so basically I could have filled this entire list with Boyce Avenue - if you haven't heard of them, you should go look them up on YouTube - they are AMAZING! They do acoustic covers of popular songs and they are just incredible. Actually, I had a hard time narrowing down which one I was going to add to this list. Ultimately it came down to Speed Limit and an awesome Rihanna cover... so I decided to include both videos for you! And if you search YouTube, you will find tons of other covers that will love just as much!

And here is the cover for We Found Love....

4. John Legend – Each Day Gets Better

John Legend is incredible - Voice of an Angel as my husband would say - and we all know some of his greats like "All of Me" and "You and I" are insanely romantic and would work as great wedding songs. But unique is what we are going for... so I wanted to include a lesser known one. Like most of John's other music, this song has a very vintage, soulful feel to it and is fun. It's definitely different than the most commonly used first dance songs out there!

5. Amy Kalea (Alicia Keys Cover)  – No One (acoustic)

Like with Boyce Avenue, I love popular songs covered acoustically! This one done by Amy Kalea is one of my favorites!

I hope this list has inspired you to find a song that can truly be unique to celebrate your big day. I encourage you to not follow the crowd and choose a song based on its popularity (that popularity will fade quickly). Find something that is meaningful to you and rock it! And because I promised I would include my own wedding song for you... here it is! Enjoy!
