Does Your Wedding Need Matching Bridesmaid Dresses?
Well, of course not!
I have a cousin getting married this June in Canton, OH and she made a brave decision to do mismatching bridesmaid dresses. So, as a bridesmaid in her wedding party, I have the freedom to choose my own dress. Do I love this idea? Hells yeah! Are you kidding me, what a brilliant idea. The only requirements she has laid out are that the dresses we choose be all black, knee length, and approved by her. I absolutely adore this idea for so many reasons. As you probably guessed, I will be sharing them with you below.
Why I Think Mismatching Bridesmaid Dresses are Fabulous for the Bridesmaids:
- Each bridesmaid can be true to herself and her own style, rather than everyone all just blending into each other.
- No one is built the same. Every one of us has a different body shape… and there really is NO one dress that will look great on everybody. It only makes sense to put each girl in a style of dress that makes HER body look the best.
- Each bridesmaid will be more comfortable and confident in a dress that fits her the way she wants it to. They will all feel better about themselves and will just be happier.
- Multi-purpose dresses. If the girls pick their own dress, it is more likely that it really will be something they can wear again for another event.
- Money issues are less of a concern. This is a big one. Being a part of a wedding party is EXPENSIVE. It just is. Between paying for dresses, shoes, accessories, shower gifts, wedding gifts, and a bachelorette party, the bridal party ends up dropping some big bucks. If they get the control to choose their own dresses, they can be on the lookout for great dresses when they go on sale. There is no one dictating how much they will have to spend, so thy can find something that fits their budget best.
Why I Love This Idea From a Wedding Photographer's Perspective:
- It's super trendy. Mismatching dresses are becoming the new style in wedding parties. It looks great, and because each girl has more control over what she is wearing, everyone radiates more confidence and beauty. It is a win-win all around!
Why Brides Should Love Letting Their Bridesmaids Pick Their Own Dresses:
- Less stress on the bride. Brides have enough on their plates without having to search the globe for the perfect dress that all of their bridesmaids will love, look great in, and be able to afford. Just thinking about it gives me a headache.
